My Boys Have No Idea Why Obama Is Such a Big Deal…and We Couldn’t be Prouder
(The ol’ Needle is a bit of a mess today. Forgive me if I go astray. Being up half the night drinking Sancerre, balling me eyes out doesn’t necessarily bring out my most cohesive thoughts.) Last night we spent a lot of time talking about something that filled us with joy and sadness at the same time. My boys have no clue why this is such a historical moment…no clue why Mama is wailing like a banshee. Why? Because they have no idea that color has ever been a way of determining someone’s worth. They have grown up here in NYC among a sea of every color, culture, ethnicity, & religion. When they see Obama…they just see a man. They know him by name…not as the first black president…just a new president. Isn’t that f***ing beautiful?
Here’s to you President-elect Obama. Thank you for bringing our country together with ideals we can be proud of as a nation. Thank you for restoring hope. Let the work begin.

Amen. I am amazed at how far generations of Americans have come. Barack Obama and everything he stands for is inspires me that there really is hope for a better world with higher ideals.
