People often ask whether we are feeding an army. No, we say, the 12 pints of strawberries and the 20 pounds of peaches and 5 melons last the 4 of us about a week. I am not even exaggerating. When summer comes, we live on fruit! I can imagine the fruit-devouring scenes :) We buy huge quantity of fruit and veggies from the farmers’ market. People often ask whether we are feeding an army. We get 8 items and the whole share usually fits in one grocery bag, except during watermelon season and pumpkin season. Luckily, I work for my share so it doesn't blow our budget. Last year we went from 50 degrees and freezing to 90 degrees and drought in the span of a couple weeks, so the CSAs didn't perform as expected, so I am nervous... Our quasiorganic fruit share is $155 for 16 weeks. If yours is combined than 700 for 20 weeks is a little higher, but maybe you get more goodies than we do. I know, it sounds daunting doesn't it. I haven't done it yet because I hope to start growing my own and then will supplement from the farmer market. Plus our CSAs don't have eggs so I would have to go to the market anyway. it's a tough choice, but everyone who I know that has joined one loves it! I ate SUPER cheap all winter on veggies (about $10 a week at the farmers market). When I added fruits to my local eating experiment this spring, all the sudden, it's more like $30-40 a week. Yikes! Good stuff though. BTW, I got your produce bags in the mail last week and used them at the farmers market on Saturday. Love them! Thanks! It always amazing me how much fruit is.
