Produce Bags Yippeeeeeeeeee!
The first round of produce bags are complete and headed for etsy. I just need to take some decent photos, not my strong point. I was hoping to take them outdoors…frolicking by the trees in all of their organic glory, but the weather is against me. Damn you nimbus clouds! (It is a well documented fact that nimbus clouds hate reusable produce bags. A tale too long and gory to tell here.)
For those of you who haven’t been following along the fast-paced adventure tale that is sewing, I have been working on organic color grown produce bags to replace my use, and hopefully yours, of disposable plastic ones. Although some fruits and veggies can just go naked, like melons, others need to be corralled or you will have grape juice when you get home instead of grapes, bananas with bruises- which, in my house, apparently makes all their sweetness turn evil, and just utter chaos in the shopping cart. This particular cotton is a light mesh, allowing ethylene to escape, can be moistened for those hydrophilic plants, and is 100% certified organic cotton so no worry about chemicals touching your organic lovelies. For the drawstring, I went with braided bamboo yarn for its anti fungal and anti bacterial properties. These are washable and, of course, reusable. They will be found on etsy by Sunday I hope, under, you guessed it, organicneedle.
- small…7×7 $5.75
- medium 10×10 $6.75
- herb 6×14 $6.75
- large 12×14 $8
You will also find my organic color grown cotton reusable gift bags and wine totes. And my bears.
Thank you for enduring my rather shameless self-promotion.
PS…If you do not hear from me for a few days it is because I will have made the usual transition from sewer extraordinaire to media sensation and will be on my European tour.

I’ll be looking for you on Etsy! Knowing that you put so much thought and care into the whole process–I’d love to be one of your first customers!
That’s so cool. Too bad I’m not buying anything new until August.
I wish I would’ve known about these before I bought my mesh bags. I’d already decided they would make great gifts – so I’ll definitely visit when the time comes. Have you considered making organic cloth napkins?
