Does Size Matter…..Produce Bag Update
Produce bag fabric is finally herrrrrrrrreeeeee! Washing as I type. Birds are singing. Bees are buzzing…….. I am on a fabric high. No- not hemp- this is a pure organic cotton bender.
Here is the big question out there for any of you interested in my ____ bags. (There were too many dirty things to put in there – melon, yam, banana……fill in your own favorite.) What size works for you? This is what I am thinking…
- Small- 7×7 (Good for small amounts of produce, and great for lunch boxes in lieu for the mighty Ziplock.
- Medium -10×10 (Should fit bunch of bananas, head of broccoli, a melon.)
- Large - 12×14 (My goal with this one is to fit 5lbs of apples.)
- Herb - 5×12 (Can anyone from the class tell me what would go in here? I knew you could.)
Still working out some drawstring options. I am thinking bamboo yarn due to its anti fungal and anti bacterial properties, but a little afraid it will knot too easily and maybe fray. Braiding might help. Making the cording from organic cotton canvas is a possibility, but time consuming. I have yet to find organic string or cording that would work. I don’t really want to go with something synthetic considering the lengths I, and the growers, designers, creators and distributors, have gone through to keep the organic color grown cotton pure and free of any chemicals. If anyone knows a secret gnome who makes organic drawstrings, spill his location.
I am working on some good names for the sizes, but am very open to suggestion.

For the “herb” size…I’m thinking basil would be an option…but even better than that (at least in my world) chili peppers! My husband is always sending me to the store for 1 or 2 small peppers (like serrano, jalapeno, etc.)…a bag of that size would be perfect for those little guys!
Oooooh, me likey the size choices! Wish I had an organic cording supplier name for you, but alas, our cotton drawstrings are most likely produced the new old fashioned way – with shitloads of chemicals.
